How to get your internal quality auditors to do their audits

May 01, 2020

The struggle is real.  Most organizations struggle with recruiting and maintaining a strong internal audit team.  Either the auditor volunteers (or is volunteered), then they receive some training and wait until an audit is assigned to them.  But when it comes to actually completing their audits, they either don't get around to it, they're reassigned and no longer able to participate, or they prioritize the activity to the bottom of their list because they think it'll just be too hard to do.

In any case, the internal audits don't get done.  And either your compliance is put at risk, or your organization runs the risk of not discovering a gap (or an opportunity) until actual performance is impacted.

I've interviewed lots of internal auditors and they share a common challenge - they don't feel well enough equipped to perform their audits.  Some don't understand their organization's internal audit process at all.  Some don't really know how to follow a process, do good sampling and/or report their conclusions.  And most don't understand the requirements of ISO9001:2015.

I'd like to offer a solution!  Arm your internal auditor squad with a great tool to help them get the job done.  ISO9001 in Plain English is an easy-to-navigate powerhouse of information which translates every section of the wordy, obscure requirements of ISO9001:2015 into plain English so your auditors know what to look for.

And I'll offer to take it a step further.  Contact me and I'll customize a proven Introduction to Internal Auditing video training course that introduces them to ISO9001:2015, presents best practices for internal auditors and gives them an overview of your organization's system.  Paired with ISO9001 in Plain English, you'll be able to recruit internal auditors, give them training, and provide ongoing access to an easy-to-navigate powerhouse of information so that they can get the job done every single time.

If your organization needs to revamp or shore up its internal audit system, these two tools can help!  Or perhaps your internal auditors just need a resource to help them be more effective.  Contact me for a custom course and/or supplement your current system with ISO9001 in Plain English.

And as always, keep improving!
